A review of the movie Stuck Between Stations at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The title of the film is quite appropriate as much of the setting is in and around the city of Minneapolis, which is a major stop and change over point on the Amtrak line.. From that train station, a walk to the city is a couple of miles  which includes an artsy about a mile long overpass over the Mississippi River.  The credits showthat some of the film was shot in nearby St. Paul with scenes also from NYC.  Casper, played by Sam Rosen who also co wrote the film, is on a break from his tour of duty as an overseas soldier and will heading out and back to and in the morning.  In the meantime, early in the evening he crosses paths with Rebecca in a bar brawl, and they begin to hang out for the night and walk around the city and that wonderful overpass after an initial stopover at another party.  Rebecca, not quite a supermodel but nonetheless emitting enough steam to be quite attractive to many and she holds on to academic airs even while on the party circuit.  The moon is full and the night is looming and good company is an upgrade to meandering around alone as the lighting in the area isn't fully across the board and the need for company is accentuated a bit by the lurking darkness just outside the big city itself.  As the m,ovie progresses we first see an appearance by Josh Hrrtnett as Paddy who is in has some wisdom within his wise guy persona as he circles by on his bicycle  We then learn that Rebecca has an involvement, David, a married professor in her department of study where she hopes to keep moving up in academia. While he seems like an okay guy, the situation is another  choice that fits into the getting stuck scenario.  Here an aparent contradiction shows up in her character, she is seemingly semi hard to get, and presents herself as a sharp cookie, yet has involved herself with this Professor where there is bound to be fallout. Why is she latching onto this choice at this point?  There are flashes of fun, excitement and chemistry between Casper and Rebecca as the night begins, and will the shoe drop at midnight and there is no  more Cinderella story or is this a first bloom on a relationship that ultimately can make it through the night and then carry the day?  The movie opens with an awesome track rendered by local musicians and has some excellent tunes.  The nightline backdrop really highlights the characters beginning to tune in to each other and some of the stories that begin to be shared between them echo to a calling for good company in the trials of uncertainty of all that surrounds that is more fully accentuated as depth and breath of night falls
